Life as a European volunteer in Stuttgart, Germany

Our project won a Theater competition

Last year we had been working with refugee kids on a theater project “Tam-Tam” and in December we had the final show of out theater play “Der Fuchs geht um” (“The Fox goes around”) at Merlin Theater in Stuttgart. Many people attended the event and it was a real success! With this project, we have applied to „Aller Welt Bühne“  (Eng. “Stage of the whole World”) theater competition and recently we have found out that we won the competition!

We (Jugendwerk volunteers) together with refugee kids were invited to a public event to claim our prize. The event was held at “Fair Handeln” (Eng. Fair trade) fair at a huge events center “Messe Stuttgart”.  At this fair kids not only had a chance to be proud of themselves because of the competition they won but also they were able to learn about sustainability, ecological farming, different plant species and more (it will definitely be useful  because in May we start a new gardening project with kids from Botnang refugee camp!)

According to competition’s commission,  the theater play “Der Fuchs geht um” won this nomination because the play reflects actual situation regarding refugee crisis and the fact that lots of people lost their homes. Despite this tragic situation, the kids were able to show that it’s possible to overcome all sorts of disasters when you have kind people around who support you.
